Author Guidelines

 The criteria for accepting and publishing manuscripts in the journal
 
1. Thematic scope and the sections of the journal

Manuscripts submitted for publication must correspond to the character of the journal (see bookmark: Focus and Scope).
 

2. Submitting manuscripts for publication, and technical requirements

The manuscript should be sent to:

or should be submitted directly by OJS:

https://ojs.ejournals.eu/SHS/about/submissions.

It should be saved in the MS Word format (the DOC or DOCX format) or RTF and meet the requirements of the journal (see below: 6. Manuscript template and text formatting – guidelines).

In addition, a statement should be enclosed that the manuscript has not been previously published or accepted for publication in another publishing house; in the case of co-authorship, it is also required to include the relevant information about the contribution of each of the authors – see: Author Declaration Form.

3. Review principles and the decision to publish

Submitted manuscripts are subject to certain rules of peer review that determine the final acceptance or rejection of the manuscripts for publication (see bookmark: Peer Review Process).

4. Proofreading

The Editorial Team reserves the right to make linguistic and editorial changes in the texts accepted for publication. Before publication, the Author (or the Co-author who is the contact person) will receive the text electronically (or exceptionally a hard copy) for proofreading. The amendments made by the Author (or the appointed Co-author) should be clearly marked in the text. The proofreading should be finished until the deadline specified by the Editorial Team. Failing to submit the text after proofreading to the deadline is tantamount to accepting the text for publication in the version provided by the Editorial Team.

5. License agreement

The authors of manuscripts accepted for print sign a copyright license (see bookmark: Copyright License Form).

6. Manuscript template and text formatting – guidelines

In order to minimize authors time devoted to the preparation of manuscripts that will not be finally accepted for publication in the journal, two stages of the manuscript evaluation are introduced: preliminary and proper.

At the preliminary stage, it is acceptable that the formatting of bibliographies and footnotes, which take up the most time for authors, should be prepared in any bibliographic style.

Then the editors decide whether the text is rejected or submitted for substantive review (proper evaluation).

After receiving positive reviews, authors are obliged to format the manuscript in accordance with the formatting rules adopted in the journal.

FirstView articles

Completed articles, i.e. articles after final revisions, queued for assignment to the upcoming journal volume can be distributed online prior to being included in the upcoming volume (in print and electronic versions).

Such forthcoming articles receive a DOI (Digital Object Identifier); the final page numbering of such articles is set in the journal volume; after the publication of the journal volume, the CrossMark service will make sure the files are replaced with their final versions.

The correct way to cite such an article is to use its title, the term “forthcoming”, and DOI:

Last Name, First Name(s) year: Article title. Studia Historiae Scientiarum (forthcoming). DOI: 10.4467/2543702XSHS.NN.NNN.NNNNN.

Where NN.NNN.NNNNN stands for specific digits 0-9.

 Copyright and fair use

The journal complies with the Polish and the international copyright law.

From volume 21 (2022) the content of the journal “Studia Historiae Scientiarum” is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY 4.0) license  or any other language version of this license or any later version of this license, published by Creative Commons, with the proviso that content that is included in publications to which third parties own rights (for example, images, photos or graphics) have separate CC licensing requirements (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA,…, CC BY-NC-ND) or others.

In other words, the users of this website can use the materials published on this website free of charge as long as they meet the following requirements:

▪ "BY" – they acknowledge the authorship of the materials (i.e. they will not assign the authorship to themselves);

Fair use of the texts published by the journal Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU or Studia Historiae Scientiarum (from volume 15(2016) to volume 19(2020); CC BY-NC-ND license) includes: non-commercial private use for the purpose of research, teaching, commenting, criticizing, quoting, paraphrasing, informing and archiving with due regard for the current copyright law and with detailed bibliographic information of such publications.

In volume 20(2021) Studia Historiae Scientiarum, in the case of some articles, fair use includes non-commercial use (CC BY NC ND license), and in the case of another part (CC BY license) also commercial use with respect for applicable copyright law and precise bibliographic information of such texts.

From volume 21(2022) of Studia Historiae Scientiarum fair use includes non-commercial as well as commercial use (CC BY license) respecting applicable copyright law and accurate bibliographical information of such texts.

The authors who would like to reprint their texts published in the journal Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU or Studia Historiae Scientiarum should apply to the Editors for written approval of such reprint (free of charge). They are also required to include complete bibliographic information of the original publication in the reprint.

The articles published in years 2016–2021 are available under a licence Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 3.0 Poland (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 PL).
